Safe, Loved, Valued and Accepted

What if it were possible to know that you have everything you need to parent this beautiful family you have? Everything, including a community.

I am starting something new. The more adoptive parents I meet and talk with the more I know we benefit from community. I want to give us a place, virtually, to meet up. The first Friday of each month I am hosting two Parent’s Meet Ups and conversation. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. You are welcome. All you need is a bit of time, a willingness to participate, and Wi-Fi. This is a no-cost event.

We all know that raising adopted kids follows the same milestones as raising biological kids but with an extra layer of complexity in each step and stage in life. It just does. That complexity leads to questions and ‘what if’s…’ for parents. Because we are creative and capable people, complexity can also lead to some ideas, strategies, and steps. These are worth discussion and sharing.

All kids (and adults) want to feel safe, loved, valued, and accepted. Kids who come to us following abandonment or relinquishment seek these even harder. They come thinking or feeling unsafe, unloved, unvalued, and unaccepted; hoping they are wrong and waiting for proof that they are. That tension can be tough to parent through, especially if we do not expect it. The great news is others experience this too and we all have insight to add to the conversation.

If you are an adoptive parent, you have questions and uncertainty. It comes with the territory, as my Dad used to say. You may also have some ideas, learnings, and strategies that were/are helpful. You probably would benefit from the experiences of other adoptive parents.

The next Parent’s MeetUp is June 5, 2020. We will meet using Zoom. Our target is 45 minutes of introduction and conversation. Registration is easy.
